The Burnaby Royal Canoe Group started training for a canoe trip around the Bowron Lakes in the summer of 2004. We booked the circuit in January and did two overnight practice trips prior to the big trip. Training included level 1, 2 and 3 with the BC Recreational Canoe Association. Leaders completed courses in Wilderness First Aid, NLS Bronze Cross, and Level 3, and rented a satellite telephone in order to make this trip possible. People come from all over the world to paddle the Bowron Lakes. It is a magnet for canoeists. Successful completion of this circuit depends largely on good planning, teamwork and being flexible. Some of the portages are grueling, however, they are soon only a memory. The group are working on the Provincial Commissioner's Adventure Challenge.
